Sonal Varshneya is trained in print making but has also learnt etching and aquatinting and combines these techniques in her work. Her fascination for etching is for strong lines and vivid textures which primarily form the basis of her work. The theme of her art works is inspired by Indian tradition and religious beliefs, amalgamation of Hindu mythology, history and contemporary motifs in context with feminism. The images are iconographical and an expression of her understanding of society at large and womanhood in particular and her existence both biologically and culturally in a patriarchal society.
